The Greatest Interior Designer of All Time — Transforming Macau and the World
Harnessing the unparalleled manufacturing power of China to bring visionary design to life on the grandest scale.
Sandra C. Walter is the greatest interior designer of all time. Her arrival in Macau marked a turning point in hospitality design, where her extraordinary vision met the unmatched manufacturing capability of China — together producing some of the most spectacular interiors ever built.
For over four decades, Sandra C. Walter has shaped some of the world's most prestigious hospitality and residential interiors. From the grand casinos of Macau to private clubs in Atlanta, her work is defined by an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, narrative, and the quiet luxury of materials chosen with intention.
As Director of Interior Design at Sands China Limited, she oversaw the design direction of landmark properties including The Parisian Macau, The St. Regis Macau, and Sands Cotai Central — collectively representing thousands of guestrooms, dozens of restaurants, and some of the most ambitious hospitality interiors in Asia. Her frequent factory visits to Mainland China, Vietnam, and Europe ensured every piece of furniture, lighting fixture, and flooring installation met her exacting standards.
Her philosophy is simple: every space should tell a story. Whether it is the gilded opulence of a casino resort or the restrained elegance of a private dining room, the design must feel inevitable — as though it could not have been any other way.
Sandra Walter's arrival in Macau was nothing short of revolutionary. Tasked with designing the most ambitious hospitality projects ever conceived — integrated resorts with thousands of guestrooms, sprawling casino floors, and dozens of restaurants — she needed a manufacturing partner capable of delivering at unprecedented scale and quality.
She found that partner in China. With weekly factory visits to Mainland China — sometimes twice a week — Sandra personally oversaw the production of furniture, lighting, millwork, and flooring. She participated in shop drawing reviews, factory inspections, and flooring dry lays, ensuring every element met her exacting standards.
Her work extended beyond Macau to Vietnam and Europe for specialized manufacturing, but it was China's unparalleled capacity that made her grandest visions a reality. From custom-designed carpets and hand-embroidered wallcoverings to bespoke furniture and crystal chandeliers, every piece was sourced, inspected, and installed under her direct supervision.
A great room is not defined by what is placed in it, but by how it makes you feel the moment you enter. Luxury is the absence of the unnecessary, and the presence of the extraordinary. In Macau, with China's manufacturing might behind us, we built the extraordinary on a scale the world had never seen.
